Derek was born in central Illinois where he has lived most of his life with the exception of a brief pit stop in Indianapolis where he worked just long enough to meet his wife. Married 12 years, no kids, he enjoys his job as a journeyman lineman for a local utility company and divides his spare time (if any) between golf, bowhunting, sim racing and real time NASCAR events. He attends the Brickyard 400 every year, and usually catches the remaining races at home or in a local restaurant and sports bar where everybody knows his name....just like Cheers!

An avid Jeff Gordon fan, he still has trouble swaying his wife, who often roots for Mark Martin or Tony Stewart.

PC and Play Station games include NASCAR racing through NASCAR 2003 and Need for Speed. He also enjoys Madden Football 2005 and Call of Duty when not engrossed in one of the above, and sucker punching the Metal Gear Solid chick just to see her slug him back.
